Mike Morgan
Principal Architect, LEED A.P.

Michael is the principal architect at Hoffmann Morgan Associates.  Over the 29 years of his career in Montana, Idaho, and Oregon, he has steadily diversified his range of project typologies and finds them all to be interrelated and mutually informative.

Michael maintains his client’s budgets and programmatic needs as a top priority and seeks honest solutions with maximum potential.

Michael’s projects emerge from a design aesthetic influenced by the Pacific Northwest and the Mountain West, in which the built and natural environments have a strong dialogue, and where the sense of craft and materiality is evident in the architecture.  He explores how environmental factors and context can interact with concepts of urban design to create flexible environments that promote healthy living and community.

Michael was raised a third generation masons son in the Pacific Northwest where his interests in architecture were born.  He graduated in 1987 from the University of Idaho with a Masters of Architecture, then apprenticed in Portland and Idaho before becoming principal of his architecture firm in Sun Valley for 15 years.

Michael, his darling sweetheart Shawna Van Beek, and their three boys Davis, Kramer, and Caleb, fell in love with Montana in 2006 and made it their permanent home in 2010.

Michael joined James Hoffmann & Associates in early 2010.  Jamie’s passion for affordable housing, neighborhood infill, and historic preservation, and Mike’s passion for ecological consciousness and Mountain West Contemporary, evolved to form Hoffmann Morgan Associates when Michael became principal in 2011.  Michael enjoys seeing Jamie’s returns from retirement for consultant based services because one’s passions never really cease or ever stop influencing others.

Emett has spent most of his professional life in Finland where he ran his own Design/Build firm specializing in custom homes and historic restorations. Designing and building homes in the far north has instilled in him the fundamental importance of healthy building physiology and good construction detailing.  Emett has over 10 years building experience and brings to the firm a practical knowledge of construction that is rare in the field.  He couples this invaluable skill with exceptional design talent and managerial skills.  Emett moved back to the States in 2015 with his wife and three children, making Montana their home.
